Store problemer i EU-kommissionen – men de kan løses!

Following embarrassing revelations that the European Commission had purchased 21 deluxe espresso machines costing thousands of euros each – only to find that commissioners and their distinguished guests, not to mention the staff, were drinking a less-than-perfect brew – a settlement has been reached with the maker.

The company, La Cimbali of Italy, is organizing training sessions for a representative from each commissioner’s office to enhance their “coffee knowledge, from beans to the cup,” La Cimbali wrote in an “action plan” obtained by the International Herald Tribune. Officials would benefit from “coffee tasting theory and sensorial techniques,” “recipes and hints,” as well as “ordinary machine maintenance procedures.”

And just in case they forget, or are too busy to perform the regular cleaning ritual, the company is programming each of the €5,000, or $6,400, machines to periodically run an automatic cleaning cycle, “thus removing the need for someone to actively intervene,” Kidd said.
