A gang of four men cleared previously of raping a twelve-year old girl were sentenced to two years’ banishment for “forceful sexual assault” in a high court appeal case today.
But in defiance of previous government pledges, the court has not imposed any prison sentence.
The state had appealed following a ruling last July that the men were guilty of “consensual sex before marriage”, claiming the girl had agreed to have sex because she didn’t “scream out” after the men broke into her house.
A top Shiite cleric warned Monday that violence in Beirut could spin out of control, a day after seven protesters died in rioting and clashes in the city’s southern suburbs that were reminiscent of Lebanon’s 15-year civil war.
But the area was calm Monday as troops patrolled and Shiite Muslims buried their dead.

She claims that this “culture of death” is the reason for the spread of terrorism in Saudi society.
This is not the first time Saudis have protested against the school system. A MEMRI Special Dispatch from 2004 looks at criticism in Saudi Arabia regarding the intensive focus on death in Saudi schools, with columnists, university lecturers, and parents discussing the emotional damage suffered by schoolchildren as a result of this focus and calling on the Saudi Education Ministry to put a stop to it.
“Let me put it plainly: We must realize that this ‘culture of death’ is the main reason that the ideological terrorism of takfir [accusing others of heresy] and various [other] sorts of terrorism are endorsed by our society. To eradicate this cancer, we must address its roots – namely, the social seclusion of women.”
Ifølge noterne betyder “the social seclusion of women”: sløret.

Men – om man slår sammen alle skrivemåtene av navnet Mohammad, havner det arabiske navnet helt øverst. Det har det også gjort en stund, uten at du har fått vite det.
Det er ikke noe nytt at Mohammad er det mest populære navnet i Oslo. Det har også vært sånn tidligere, men det er først nå vi har våget å si det, sier rådgiver Jørgen Ouren i Statistisk sentralbyrå til iOslo.no.

Nå ja – men det er jo bare kristne præster, det er der ingen, der gider spilde tid på, og ødelægge den gode stemning med. Men tænk hvis danskere havde myrdet nogle muslimske imamer – så skulle du se ramaskrig – specielt fra hele den muslimske verden og vore hjemlige ‘do-goodere’. Så ville det hedde racisme, islamofobi osv. Men som vi alle husker – så kan man ikke begå racisme mod hvide og kristne – nej nej. Og kristofobi er jo ikke et ord, der findes i de godes ordbog.

Ja, det er, hvad Vesten har lagt op til i mange år, så at islam med den Allah-givne sharia kan indføres på endnu et område af vor klode – målet er jo én verden og én tro.
Mesteparten av denne kritikken tatt utgangspunkt i visse tema som kritikerne har ment skulle illustrere bildet av mørk middelalder og lys nåtid. Den kristne kulturimpulsen skulle etter dette synet ha vært dysfunksjonelt for framskritt og forbedringer. Men mange av de populære forestillingene om den kristne kulturs historie, står ikke til pålydende, hevder professor Sigurd Skirbekk i en kronikk i dagens Vårt Land.

Sir: I am surprised that Yasmin Alibhai-Brown should be surprised at the new prejudice and discrimination in British society (“Why is racial abuse now considered acceptable?”, 28 January). What really ought to surprise her is that it has taken so long for the backlash to 7/7, and other atrocities, to materialise.
How can the ordinary British citizen be expected to distinguish between the law-abiding Muslim and the extremist? In these circumstances it is easiest, and safest, to assume the worst and to take refuge in whatever form of defence comes readily to hand – even foul language.
As an asylum-seeker myself, albeit of many decades ago from Nazi Germany, I can only draw Yasmin Alibhai-Brown’s attention to the distinction between assimilation and conformity. Nobody is asking Muslims to assimilate, but it behoves immigrants, of whatever religion, to conform to the norms of the society in which they have chosen to live.
When we read (as we have just done) of Muslims seeking to behead another human being, or to commit other appalling atrocities, then it is reasonable for ordinary folk to ask – what are these people doing here anyway and why do they choose to behave in ways which appall us?
My generation of immigrants conformed. We retain and value features of our origins, but we do not demand privileges or special treatment and we contribute to the life of the nation as best as we can. Ten thousand of us fought for Britain in the Second World War – a small expression of gratitude to the country which gave us refuge.
Yasmin Alibhai-Brown needs to ask herself to what extent the racial intolerance which she condemns is of her, and others’, own making? What has she, and others like her, done to bridge the ever-widening gap between what seems to us an alien culture and a way of life which in these islands has endured for centuries and which, in many ways, still makes this country one of the most civilised in the world?
Og lad det være sagt med det samme: Det er en perle af en bog. Klar, pædagogisk og kildemæssigt velfunderet. En bog, der dels viser, hvor utroværdig Danmarks mest citerede islamforsker er, dels indikerer, at historiefaget på Aarhus Universitet er en dybt politisk institution.

Hvis Kim Møllers perle kan forstyrre Jørgen Bæk Simonsen og andres søvn blot en enkelt nat, så har den været det hele værd, i hvert fald for os læsere, der ikke har mistet en karrieremulighed på grund af fejheden på Aarhus Universitet, og forfatteren fortjener stor ros for ikke at have givet op undervejs. Det er ægte – og meget udansk – stamina. Tak er som bekendt kun et fattigt ord.
