Æres-hysterectomi

Ynet: “A debate held by a Palestinian radio station has revisited the issue of female mutilation, with interviewed parents saying they prefer to perform hysterectomies on mentally ill girls in order to prevent them from becoming impregnated. But the procedure is known to be performed in order to allay fears of embarrassment by a similarly ill offspring, and has been sanctioned to this end by both Sharia and the Palestinian Authority. “We can’t follow the girls around 24 hours a day, and we worry that they will be sexually assaulted, so we prefer to cut out their wombs,” one parent told a radio station belonging to the Ma’an news agency.

The station held a debate on the matter over the past few days, uncovering a phenomenon not uncommon in the West Bank. Parents who were interviewed anonymously cited protecting their daughters from rape as the reason behind the procedure, and the mufti of Nablus issued a decree approving hysterectomies “if they can put an end to a mental condition or social problem”. A gynecologist interviewed by the radio stressed that the procedure prevents pregnancy but not sexual desire. The debate also concluded that Palestinian law does not prevent hysterectomies from being carried out on mentally ill girls, despite prohibiting the severing of body parts from any person’s body without that person’s consent. – Female Palestinian MP Dr. Sahar Al Qawasmi agreed that there is a legal problem, and said a hysterectomy does nothing to defend the girl but rather serves only to protect her family from the shame and embarrassment incurred in Muslim society by a mentally ill family member. – “If our will is to protect the disabled or mentally ill, we must worsen the punishment against those who would attack her,” Dr. Qawasmi said. –  “If we must cut out the girl’s womb, why do we not chop off body parts from disabled boys? The hysterectomy makes her the victim of a rape as well as of punishment, and the lack of punishment for her assailant.”

JPost: “Norway has refused to allow Germany to test new submarines it is selling to Israel in its territorial waters, according to Norwegian media reports this week. The Dolphin-class submarines, built by the German company HDW in the port city of Kiel, were supposed to undergo several tests in the waters off the Norwegian coast before being transferred into the hands of the Israeli navy. It was not clear at the time of this report whether the testing ban would delay the transfer of the submarines into Israeli hands.

In May, the Sunday Times reported that Israel is planning to permanently station a submarine carrying missiles with nuclear warheads in the Persian Gulf. According to the report, Israeli submarines have visited the Gulf before, but it was decided in May that the Israeli navy should maintain a permanent presence of at least one of the vessels in the strategic region. The article stated that the submarines are moving to the Persian Gulf in respone to the growing missile threat to Israel from Syria, Iran and Hizbullah.”

LAHORE: A division bench of the Lahore High Court on Wednesday confirmed the death sentence handed down to a blasphemy convict and ordered that he be hanged till death. – This is the second case of its kind in the country when the death sentence of a blasphemy accused has been confirmed by the LHC since inception of the blasphemy law. An Additional District and Sessions Judge Lahore on May 27, 2002 had awarded Wajihul Hassan death sentence for allegedly uttering blasphemous remarks against the Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and other prophets. He was also accused of hurting religious sentiments of the complainant – Senior Advocate Muhammad Ismail Qureshi.

Allam Iqbal Town Police registered an FIR against Hassan under sections 295-C (use of derogatory remarks in respect of Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), 295-A (malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings) and 298-A (use of derogatory remarks in respect of holy personages). – The session judge had awarded him death sentence and Rs0.2 million fine under section 295-C, 10 years’ imprisonment and Rs50,000 fine under section 295-A and two years’ imprisonment and Rs20,000 fine under section 298-A.

According to the complainant – Advocate Muhammad Ismail Qureshi – who had got Ahmadis declared non-Muslims by the Supreme Court, some unknown persons had been wiring him frequent letters carrying blasphemous remarks against the Holy Prophet (pbuh) and other prophets. – In the FIR he alleged that although the letters did not contain names of the senders, he was sure that Wajihul Hassan was behind these letters. He alleged that Wajihul Hassan was a Muslim but later converted to Christianity and was using derogatory remarks against the Holy Prophet (pbuh). The complainant could not produce any of these letters before the police and mentioned in the FIR that he had burnt all the six letters.

Carbeque i Pakistan – vores ‘allierede’

Suspected militants in southern Pakistan set ablaze more than two dozen tankers carrying fuel for foreign troops in Afghanistan on Friday, highlighting the vulnerability of the US-led mission a day after Pakistan closed a major border crossing.

The Pakistani government shut the Torkham border in the northwest in apparent protest at a NATO helicopter incursion that killed three of its soldiers on the border. The events raised tensions between Pakistan and the United States, which have a close but often troubled alliance in the fight against militants.

Seneste Nyt.

The Huffington Post 30 Sept. Rigsanklageren ville have kontrol over den anden. Du kan protestere her.
