  3. Ville ønske jeg havde stået og set dette skønne syn af kampklare, mandfolk !

    Indrømmet jeg har altid haft en svaghed for Fremmedlegionen, de Amerikanske Læderhalse og Russernes Spetznase .

    Men allermest svag er jeg overfor -naturligvis som følge af Ældste Søns virke - Fighterpilots og deres fabelagtige evner til at få alt der er mulgit ud af deres fly.

    F-16 flyet er et smukt fly- ikke så stort, men elegant i formen.

    Godt vi er i sving med at opgradere vores hjemlige F-16, så vi har dem en rum tid endnu.

  5. Dear Kepi,
    I have watched this film several times, Oscar Wilde used to say that a book is not worth reading once if it it not worth reading twice. The same goes for a film. Several things kept popping up into my mind as I re-ran the the film.
    (1)The Pride they showed, not arrogant pride, just we are as good as anybody.
    (2)The way they marched, Orwell used to say that the British army march was a stylized walk, not like the German Goose step, where you could imagine the boots smashing down into somebodies face. The way these gentleman marched reminded me very much of the British way of marching only, not so stylized more purposeful, un-hurried firm determined.
    (3)I saw very few blacks or Asians in the ranks, most seemed to be Caucasian, are there many muslims in the ranks? I ask this question because I think like me you see a civil war in Europe almost inevitable and loyalty is paramount in these situations. The British Army still recruits basically from the working class, as I suspect the Danish Army does
    (4)A couple of Questions, do the non-commissioned officers officers have the Dark blue or is it black kepis. I noticed that all the columns were lead by a soldier wearing a Dark kepi.
    (5)Why have the legion moved to metropolitan France instead of being based on Corsica?

  6. Dear Yorkshire:
    1) Agreed.
    2) The Legion’s marching pace (cadenza) is 88/min. Always has been. That’s why on the July 14.th parade on Champs Elysees the legion comes after all the other marching troops (normal cadenzas around 114-140) and just before the motorized units. And another peculiarity: all other regiments split left and right when reaching the Place de la Concorde, but not the legion. “It shall never be divided”.
    3) There are many “Asians” (in the Danish understanding of that word), such as Chinese, Vietnamese, Thais etc.. and some Moroccans Algerians etc.. - but Muslims, hell, no. The creed “Legio Patria Nostra” and the “Code d’Honneur” is incompatible with that.
    4) The ranks above “sous-caporale” all wear “le kepi noir” as well as legionnaires who have served more than 2×5 years.
    5) The Legion hasn’t moved for many years. Nowadays its regiments are allowed inside France proper and its boot camps (Aubagne, Castelnaudary) as well as the administration (Fort Nogent) are in France. The only full regiments otside France is 2eme REP in Calvi, Corsica and the 13.th demi-brigade in Djibouti.
